About This Course

Welcome to the Free Press Unlimited course on gender mainstreaming! In this course, you will gain knowledge and practical tools to apply a gender perspective in all aspects of our work.

Gender mainstreaming is a strategy for making women’s as well as men’s concerns and experiences an integral dimension of the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies and programmes so that women and men benefit equally and inequality is not perpetuated.

Gender mainstreaming ensures that programmes are of higher quality, are more effective and do not perpetuate gender inequalities.

Requirements

This course is meant for all staff of Free Press Unlimited. Before you start this course, we recommend that you ensure that you are familiar with the gender equality policy of Free Press Unlimited.

what will you learn?

This course aims to increase the understanding of FPU employees of basic concepts and tools to mainstream gender in their work.
At the end of this course, you will understand:

  • The concepts of gender, sex, gender equality and intersectionality
  • What gender mainstreaming is and how it applies to organisations as well as projects
  • How to do a gender analysis
  • How to mainstream gender in the different stages of the Free Press Unlimited project cycle and in the different aspects of their work

Throughout the course, we will present concrete tools that will help you apply gender mainstreaming in your work at Free Press Unlimited.

Structure of the course

The course has two modules, namely:

  • Basic concepts (including sex and gender, gender and media, gender equality, intersectionality and gender mainstreaming)
  • Gender in the project cycle (including gender equality in the problem analysis, planning, implementation and evaluation & learning)

The course includes quizzes and exercises to test and apply your knowledge. The course should take around 4 hours to complete.
